1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Sorry Mom” and is there any meaning behind it?
We've all individually had our previous journeys within music. Richie started fronting bands at the early age of 12, Adam played guitar in his project Born Victims, Dion drumming in a progressive death metal band called Destroy the Core, Connor has played bass in various metal bands, and Nathan being a guitar teacher while playing in a wide variety of hired cover bands and musicals.
The name Sorry Mom was created by ex-guitarist Ryan Snyder who thought it'd be clever and appealing to the listeners in our scene and genre.
2. What do you want listeners to take away from the "Gild" EP?
"Gild" has been our most serious, true, and heartfelt project that we've created thus far. We came into it wanting to show our listeners that Pop Punk isn't just a party/generic genre, and to express the process of individual thought and feeling. We see it as a stepping stone to what we truly want to share with the world, which is the idea that all forms of art are interpretations of the senses to express said individual thought and feeling; the circle of life, heartbreak, and happiness, that cannot being shown or felt by just speaking words.
3. What can people expect from your live show?
We do our best put on an extremely high-energy performance that keeps our listeners interested and invested. Let's just say we require some time to recover after one of our performances.
4. What's your favorite track to play live?
"Rooted" off of our new record, and "Stay Asleep" off of our previous album "Brighter Things". Both of those songs are just too fun and the crowd participation really gives us a boost during our live sets.
5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Trophy Eyes, Such Gold, and Four Year Strong.
6. Any crazy show stories?
We played a house show in Akron, Ohio that was seriously off the hook. Immediately when starting our set, a kid was thrown into their basement furnace and broke the entire thing. The crowd reaction was incredible and Richie barely had a chance to use his mic. Kids were slamming into everything and in our faces, yelling our lyrics back at us. It was an incredible experience.
7. What’s your take on the current state of pop punk?
Noticeably, the smaller touring bands in the "Pop Punk" genre have been branching out and creating more desirable, unique sounds that we're not seeing in some of the bigger names of Pop Punk. The fact that Pop Punk is looked down upon in some cases is kind of a frustrating idea when it comes to music critique. In all genres and sub-genres, there are going to be artists that sound like other artists, and some that don't, so why point out just one and put someone down for that? I feel that if someone says "Pop Punk is dumb" or any other genre-bashing statement, they just haven't heard a band that shows musical intricacy, progression, and passion.
8. What’s the current music scene like there in Ohio both locally and state wide?
NE Ohio is the best DIY scene in America (obviously a bias opinion). The community of artists and fans shows that we don't need promoters, lights, stages, etc. and all we need is a passion for music and a basement or living room. Our local venues are absolutely incredible as well! They support the bands and do what they can to pack the place, even if it's an "all locals" show.
9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?
If someone has our album, listens to it, shows their friends, gives it out; that's more than fine with us. We do everything we can to get our music into the listener's hands, even if we don't make any money on it.
10. What’s next for Sorry Mom?
A couple live videos, a brand new music video for the song "Gild" off of our new album, and raising money to be tour ready.
