1. Who thought of the name “Audrey Ripper" and is there any meaning behind it?
The name ‘Audrey Ripper’ is a comment how fragile the world is as it totally depends on your perspective of it. And in the modern world now more than ever, influential people and faceless companies are constantly looking to change your perspective to push their own agenda, usually to sell you something or a service that will make that Politically correct Disney-induced delusional ‘Dream’ magically come true.
We took two iconic people from totally opposing worlds and found a common factor between them. and that was that their perspective of the world wasn’t right. What they were seeing was their version of reality, not the cold hard truth. Audrey Hepburn is remembered as a Beauty icon, influencing society’s view of what women should really look like and aspire to be for decades. What less people know is the perverse unnatural methods she employed to keep her figure. Purging and Starving herself for days. She didn’t see a slim beautiful woman. she saw something else, someone flawed, that needed improving. Our other namesake is Jack the Ripper who’s lack of empathy and brutality for methods of killing his victims showed he didn’t see them as people. He saw something else, something inhuman that he could tear to pieces. Both were mentally unwell. However, one is worshiped as a symbol of elegance and beauty. The other a villainous monster. Why? … one can be used to sell, the other cant. Right and wrong are as flexible as the lines of sanity.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We want to support the outsider. A friend for the friendless. A voice for the angry. The spark that re-starts the fire in people’s bellies. We want to make people think and question everything. We don’t easily fit into any genre-box really, the best description is gothic hard rock with a punky rebellious vibe.
3. Who are three acts you'd like to tour with?
If we could tour with anyone it would have to be Dio. Re-animated preferably, if not we’ll settle for a Ouija board appearance, anything other than a hologram. It just doesn’t do his legend legacy Justice.
4. What are your three desert island albums that you'd never get tired of listening to?
If we could only have 3 albums on a desert island it would have to be: Portrait of an American Family (Marilyn Manson, 1994) I love the harsh mirror he holds up to society, and the way he ruthlessly points out the hypocrisy of society with songs like ‘wrapped in plastic’ and ‘Dogma’. Our second would have to be Get a Grip (Aerosmith 1993) this one’s a little different, its so full of energy its infectious. Songs like ‘Eat the rich’ and ‘Flesh’ have an unstoppable party vibe that never fails to raise any low mood…that would be pretty useful in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. Our last one we have had to debate about; but we finally agreed it would have to be The Grey chapter (Slipknot 2014) its full of self-loathing, regret and depression, and that comes as natural to us as a shitty mud bath does to a pig.
5. What’s the current music scene like there in the UK both locally and country wide?
The underground scene at the moment is kind of struggling, venues are closing almost daily. We, the Alternative music fans need to come together and support all things local music. if you neglect the Grassroots we’ll only get soulless corporate money-making acts assembled from the Elite. That is not what music is about. we want to bring people together with our music so they feel that they can put their phones down for half an hour and actually talk to like-minded people and make new mates all while putting some Oomph back into the Independent music scene.
6. What’s next for Audrey Ripper?
Our next step is to finish off a couple of singles we’re working on and release them with some mind-boggling music videos that we’ve got planned, to raise some extra awareness for our First Full-length Album that is on the Horizon.
