Sounds like: Metalcore
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “From The Wolves” and is there any meaning behind it?
Basically long story short, me (Layne) and John started jamming about a year ago. Messed around with a few different styles of playing and writing until we landed on what we have today. Then just added the rest of our lineup as time went on. The name itself doesn't mean anything to be honest. We made a list of names and just picked one finally one night we thought fit. Nothing really exciting behind it.
2. What do you want listeners to take away from your music? How has the response to "MMXIV" been since its release?
I (Shane) think people should take away from our music that we put everything we've got into our sound and stuff we've written. All of our lyrics are open to interpretation. We just want to come hard with it and show everyone that Canada has got some of the heaviest metalcore out there.
The response has been pretty good. People seem to like it and are getting into it.
3. How would you describe your music to the average listener?
I don't think you can really have a average listener anymore. There are so many people out there listening to everything. I've seen everyone from full metalheads to ladies who listen to club music head banging to our stuff.
4. What can people expect from your live show?
Rowdy. Very high energy show from start to finish. We are out on that stage to give anyone that comes the absolute best show they can see from us.
5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Parkway drive. The Acacia Strain. Stray From The Path.
6. Any crazy show stories?
Nothing really crazy has happened in our shows. We like to have fun and try to keep things interesting.
7. What’s your take on the current state of metalcore?
Well my input to that question would be that metalcore is absolutely dead and just barely hanging on. These metalcore bands were in their prime back in 06 when you could play a chug chug breakdown and keep things simple. Nowadays if you have a simple breakdown or riff in a song, you're automatically a 'cliché' band with zero talent. And the album releases from every metalcore band in the recent couple of years have been absolutely terrible. Bands will go out of their way to sound like a band they saw at Warped Tour that sold more T Shirts to 12 year old scene girls. Metalcore is dead, and we are going to do what we can to bring it back to what it used to be.
8. What’s the current music scene like there in the Canada both locally and state wide?
Canada has a ton of amazing bands who absolutely destroy it every time they hit the stage. Though I've noticed that not enough of the bigger bands tour through Canada other than to Toronto and Montreal.
9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?
Unfortunately it's a thing we all have to deal with. If people want your music they will get it any way they can. I've always supported every band I dig by buying their albums. The internet has changed the entire game. I miss waiting for a new album to drop and going to the record store to pick it up the day it's released but now it seems that no matter how hard artists try their albums get leaked.
10. What’s next for From The Wolves?
New EP. Tours. Trying to get our music to every corner of the world we can.
11. Any shoutouts?
Wolves Breath crew.
Our friends in Shark Infested Daughters. Lie Among Us. Our friends and families who support us and to everyone who comes to our shows and throws it down just as hard as we do. Thanks to everyone who has listened to and downloaded our EP.
