Sounds like: Metal
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Steelswarm” and is there any meaning behind it?
Well Dane and Jamie who founded the band, were always fascinated by Metallica and loved there music. We wanted to be just like them, then we thought hey why don't make our own music. We were pretty influenced by Metallica in the beginning but then we found out about other great musicians and bands like Megadeth, System Of A Down, Slipknot and started to branch out to create our own sound. We were a couple of days away form our first gig and we didn't even have a band name ready yet. we had a few ideas but none were worthy, so after band practice late one night we had just dropped our drummer at the time off at his house. We all got out we were standing in the freezing cold coming up with all these terrible band names, minuets went by then Jamie blurts out, What about SteelSwarm? The idea behind the name is we are the steel as in the music, and the fans are the swarm of people.
2. What do you want listeners to take away from your music?
We want them to have catchy riffs stuck in their heads and the Completeness of a great story.
3. How has the response been since the "Ultimate Offering" EP release? Any new music on the horizon?
The reaction has been great, we have been booked more shows, local and interstate and even had it chart on Triple J . We are writing material for the debut album at the moment. We are very excited in the new stuff.
4. What can people expect from your live show?
A killer performance with awesome music that will make you walk away feeling inspired.
5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
A local band we would love to tour with is LORD. International bands would be METALLICA and MEGADETH.
6. Any crazy show stories?
When jealous bands turn to vandalism, lets just leave it at that ;)
7. What’s your take on the current state of metal?
In Australia there seems to be a good local movement and there is potential everywhere to be had.
8. What’s the current music scene like there in the Australia both locally and country wide?
Some states are better than others, Melbourne and Sydney are the best but Metal seems to be popular everywhere.
9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?
We can see why people do it because it can be expensive, but Muso's put in even more money and time into their craft than many would believe, So illegally downloading music just makes it that much harder.
10. What’s next for Steelswarm?
SteelSwarm has some great shows coming up all around Australia and some awesome new material for the album that will be recorded soon.
11. Any shoutouts?
We would like to thank The Brain Recording Studios for their awesome job on our EP, they do the best work in Sydney. Also to Dave Balfour from Metal Evilution for putting us on and putting up with us.
