While there are a few Switzerland based rock/metal bands have left their mark on the listeners of the genres, Derivate has something truly special in this five song EP that will stand the test of time. “Movement I Storm” is an upstanding opening track that really encompasses the true sound that they present. Within its almost six minute length has shades of progressive rock, melody, metal and they do it effortlessly. The last few minutes are just pure chaos. “Movement II Dawn” continues the onslaught and kicks things into a rock territory early before heading into an almost Bullet For My Valentine like fury before heading back into its progressive rock roots. “Movement III Awakening” kicks off with an almost thrash metal mentality. The sound on the track is almost post hardcore like in its delivery. It’s melodic, heavy and just an overall good time of a track.
“Movement IV Downfall” continues where the previous track left off. The track builds on the previous with its stellar guitar work and progressive sound. It’s a stand out track that shows off the talent of the band. “Movement V Cycle” is the closer of the EP and really shines. The track along with the EP is a can’t miss and any fan of rock or metal genres should enjoy this for a long time to come.
Verdict:
Derivate are a bit of an anomaly. The band perfectly transfixes the listener with their unique sonic sound of progressive rock, metal and melody in a way that isn’t seen often nowadays. Make way for Derivate coming your way.
