1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Generation Underground” and is there any meaning behind it?
I got started with music in the summer of 2013 when I started playing drums in Guitar Hero Metallica. I saw a live video of Moose from Bullet For My Valentine playing their song “Your Betrayal” on drums and I thought hey this doesn’t look that hard so that got me started with music. Then I eventually got a real drum set a year later right around time we formed the band in October of 2014. We developed our sound by listening to our favorite bands such as Korn, Slipknot, Deftones, Parkway Drive, Rage Against The Machine and then took elements from each band and added our own little twist on everything and that’s how you get the Generation Underground sound. I thought of the name Generation Underground sitting in english class senior year. It really doesn't have any special meaning i wish i did tbh.
2. What do you want people to take away from your "Slaves To The World" EP?
I want people to take away from "Slaves To The World" that anything is possible in life and no matter how hard life may seem things do eventually get better. Slaves to the World is about the struggles in my life that I have gotten through and I hope that whoever listens to this can use this to help them.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
I would describe our sound to an average listener as heavy but very melodic and catchy. We aim to write the heaviest music that could be played on rock radio. Not every song that we write is meant for radio but some of the them would fit perfect and would be a breath of fresh air for people. Every song that we write is very personal to me that why I'm so proud of this record.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
That's a tough one you guys got really good questions lol. I would say Korn for sure we would definitely not be a band if it weren't for Korn. I have had the pleasure of hanging out with the guys they're so nice and down to earth. Touring with Attila would be one hell of a time, their crowds are absolutely nuts so they would love our music. Last I would say Papa Roach, Jacoby is one of the nicest guys out there and they throw down so hard live still to this day.
5. What are your three desert island albums that you'd never get tired of listening to?
3 desert albums I would have to say Iowa by Slipknot, that record got me some of the darkest times in my life. Perseverance by Hatebreed I probably would not be here right now if it wasn't for that record. Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park that record never gets old, there's not one dull moment on that entire album. RIP Chester Bennington very thankful that i got to meet him twice before he left us.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Nu Metal?
I would say the overall state of Nu-Metal is in a good place. Every subgenre of heavy music goes in cycles but it eventually comes back around. Thrash Metal has its peak in the 80s and then we had grunge in the early 90s then we had Nu-Metal after that which eventually led to Metalcore. And now we have this brand new wave of heavy music with bands such as Attila, Emmure, Sylar, Miss May I, Issues, Volumes, From Ashes To New, Fire From The Gods, Cane Hill, King 810 and plenty of other great bands out there waving the flag.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in New Jersey both locally and state wide?
It’s so funny you ask me this. There is next to no scene at all in New Jersey especially in central Jersey. Every band is the exact same except our buds in Bittersweet Victory. All they want to do is drag each other down and not let anyone succeed. Thank god we’re not apart of that scene. This isn’t a competition we’re all in this together.
8. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?
I have two opinions on legal / illegal downloading music. You have to look at it from the artists perspective and then you have to look at it from the fan’s perspective as well. From the artist's point of view thank god their things such as Apple Music, Spotify and Google Play where you can stream music and the artist gets payed now vs file sharing and illegally downloading music where we don't get payed at all. Look at least we're getting payed something rather than nothing. And from the fan's perspective can you really blame them for illegally downloading music not everyone has the same income so they got to get their music one way or another.
9. What’s next for Generation Underground?
Well we just signed a record deal with From Depths Entertainment so we're extremely excited about that. Were going to going on tour next year. I'm not quite sure where it will just yet but ill guarantee that we will be playing shows outside of New Jersey, PA and New York for once.
10. Any shoutouts?
