Sounds like: Instrumental Progressive Metal

Late last year, Writing In The Skies released their nine track "Metamorphose" album. Let's get up to speed and see what they bring to the table. "Metamorphose" cuts right in with an upbeat sound that's easy to listen to while still being quite technical. There's an absolutely bonkers breakdown/guitar solo halfway (and near the end) on the track that has to be heard to be believed. "The Gift Of Absence" has a bit more bite and melody to it. There's some slight Dysrhythmia vibes on the track as it bobs and weaves with crunch and infectious riffs. Some of the riffs are just totally out of this world. "Exit Eden" continues the onslaught of melodically driven Progressive Metal in high fashion. The guitar solos on the track are stellar and overall it still has that hard edge to it. "Shimmer" starts off slow before picking up and charging full speed ahead. There's a ton of depth and technicality on the track. It's a track that encompasses what the band is all about to a T. "Floodgates" does just that and opens up the album with its soaring riffs and shredding tendencies. It's a stellar track that'll sink its teeth in and not let go. "Endgame" is a tad more toned down than the previous tracks but it shares more in common with the title track than any of the other ones. It still has moments of that driving force behind it though (see outro of the track). "Derailed" is just nuts. It's extremely heavy and really takes the listener on a Progressive ride. You need to hear this track right now! "Age Of Autumn" kicks off with a infectious riff before having a Jazz like section which really stands out for its incredible instrumentation. The melodic sound hearkens back to the early works of Between The Buried And Me or Candiria. The track eventually explodes into a wall of sound that takes over and doesn't let it. It's truly remarkable to hear! "Freefall" closes out the album in a six minute long epic fashion. The track brings to light all the awesomeness that is the signature Writing In The Skies sound. We heard that new music is on the horizon and we can't wait to hear it!

Verdict:
Get lost in the Instrumental Progressive Metal grooves with Writing In The Skies via their "Metamorphose" album.
