From: Fort Wayne, IN
Sounds like: Hard Rock/Grunge

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Withered Veins" and is there any meaning behind it?

Guitarist Matt “Ace” Mirelez formed the band with then-singer Topher Beyer in November 2017. Ace had the idea for a band that blended the raw energy of heavy metal with the haunting harmonies and personal songwriting of grunge. “Withered Veins” was the name of a song Ace had written prior to forming the band. It was about how a woman in his life had become like a drug to him, and since she had left he felt as though his veins were withering away. Ace and Topher were throwing around ideas for a band name and Withered Veins was suggested and instantly stuck. After some lineup changes, bassist David Winn and drummer Nick Degunya joined in summer of 2018.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

We just want people to feel our emotions through our music. Some of our best songs were written during the hardest times in our respective lives. We want to write songs that are fun to listen to while also being relatable and helping people let their emotions out.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

It is the hard, heavy instrumentation of Godsmack and some of the late 90’s Metal bands, some of the eerie harmonies and melodic guitar riffs of Alice In Chains, and some influences of late 70’s-early 80’s Classic Rock.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Alice In Chains, Opeth, and Iron Maiden.

5. What are your three desert island albums that you'd never get tired of listening to?

Iron Maiden - "Somewhere In Time", Alice In Chains - "Facelift", and The Offspring - "Americana".

6. What’s your take on the current state of Hard Rock/Grunge?

We definitely see it starting to become popular again, as many of the people who were kids when this music first came out are the ones coming out to most of the shows we play. There’s been a huge wave of 80’s nostalgia recently, and we feel the 90’s nostalgia wave is next.

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Indiana both locally and state wide?

In Fort Wayne, the Metal and Indie scenes are huge. State wide is more of a variety, but still leaning more towards Metalcore, Black Metal, etc.

8. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

We’re fine with legal downloading. We wish there was a way to monitor it more closely so that people don’t pirate it, but we know that it’s a risk we must take to get our music more widely known.

9. What’s next for Withered Veins?

Really, we’re just trying to play as many shows as possible and build a bigger fan base. We do want to put out a full length album at some point in the future, though.

10. Any shoutouts?

Topher Beyer, Matt Baez, Jerrad Gorsuch, Dylan Masoner, all former members. We couldn’t have done this without you, we love you guys.
