1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Mournful Lines" and is there any meaning behind it?
Somehow Finland is country of melodic heavy music (as Nightwish, Sonata Arctica etc) Music is the key to bring out your thoughts and feelings. Somehow music works as therapeutic tool for handling all the things on your mind. Mournful Lines is band, but also it’s a story of true life. All tracks are written from true life of people near by band members.
Our guitarist/vocalist came up with the name. Actually the meaning behind the name was first a "lucky accident" if you will. Markus used a dictionary and searched for a proper word to descripe a melancholic atmosphere. Mournful came up and with a bit of googling, there already was several bands with that name so Markus decided to add a synonym to a word lyrics. That is how Mournful Lines was born.
It has taken a lot of time, effort, few trials and errors while searching for own unique sound.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We hope that people can relate to the music and especially to the lyrics in a way they feel safe and that they feel like they have someone as a peer support. Then we can safely say, that the listener has found the soul in our music and lyrics.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Alternative melancholic metal/rock that with modern pop elements.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Nightwish, Battle Beast & Amaranthe.
5. What are your three desert island albums that you'd never get tired of listening to?
Nightwish - Dark Passion Play, Trivium - Shogun, HIM - Greatest lovesongs vol. 666
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?
Metal is currently in some kind of culmination point. More and more metal bands are breaking through to the mainstream hand in hand with pop music.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Finland?
Here in Finland unfortunately some of the big venues are out of action nowadays, but despite that, there still are people that go to see their favorite bands and keep the livescene alive!
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

9. What’s next for Mournful Lines?
Mournful Lines is currently working on its 3rd album, which is entitled "Saga". The upcoming album contains 3 parts that all have their own theme. 1st single "Marionette" will be out 30.10.2020!
