Sounds like: Experimental Grind Metal
From: Norway
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Husmanskost" and is there any meaning behind it?
We basically wanted to start a grindcore project as we did with "fåricore" but we didn`t want to keep repeating ourself so we started to mix in more metal genres combined with grind/hardcore. Now after 7 releases we are realising that we are crossover as FUCK. We had a pre-warmup party before one practice and we where joking around with names and suddenly one of us said "husmankost" and we thought it was really out of place towards the music we where playing. So basically..."traditional homecooked metal"
and fåricore is a play on word based on a dish called Fårikol.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Take away? nothing! please don`t take my music away! We`re not sure, we just like to make music, experimenting with genres and using a lot of humour. To give them a good listening experience with a lot of variety. It should never get boring or repeat the samme stuff over and over.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Really crossover. Combine hardcore and different metal genres with a dirty sound. Every release has a different twist of the mixup with even some Black Metal touches.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Despise you, Discordance axis, and Ion Dissonance.
5. How has Covid affected what you do as a band?
Nothing. Nothing at all. Most likely made us more productive.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?
Too many shitty bands, shitty as hell, a whole lot of them, like 90%. Too much overproduced clean metal with no soul. All this post-emo metalcore shit keeps us into grindcore for the most part, but the increase in bands and productivity and interest for Metal is good though.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Norway?
Could have been much better. There are more funeral shops than Metal bands in our town.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Shitty, shitty as fuck, and we don`t give a shit because we don`t make any money compared to what we could have done with physical releases.
9. What’s next for Husmanskost?
More EPs we can bother people with. We are currently working on new material for an official release later this year. Mix even more genres and we are also going to do a split with Ground Sweat (US) check them out! (Releasing on Thehillsaredead Records). We've also recorded a side project earlier this year called "Walking Disease" with some guy from USA. We are just waiting for him to finish the fucking vocals. So preparing 3 releases.
10. Any shoutouts?
Ole Andre Rodlie, John Åge Olsen, Stein Olav Havnen, the sickening and our listeners.
