1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Apneuma" and is there any meaning behind it?
We all started young by being just metalhead, only listeners who one day decided to pick up an instrument. That came naturally. We´ve developed our sound with time and different people involved in the band. Nowadays thanks to that we can say very loud and clear where do we wanna go with our music. The name Apneuma came to me (Gerardo) when I was a Philosophy student. It means without soul and Greek and by that time I thought I was pretty cool and pretty metal to have a name like that.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We want the people to hear the message, the lyrics and also to create songs that they can really enjoy, just like the old times when you were listening to your favourite bands.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Is a modern metal with strong emphasis on the song. This time with this new record we are covering lots of things, lots of vocal styles, lots of guitar styles, drumming, etc. The song must be something that you wanna listen again.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Well, let me think. Evergrey, Megadeth and Lamb of God. But there´s plenty more.
5. How has Covid affected what you do as a band?
Well, we have to stop for over a year, but that helped us to create this new record and all this new ideas that we have now.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?
Someone must come up with something fresh to put metal once again on top, where the style belongs.
7. What’s the current music scene like in Uruguay?
Well, is not a big circuit so you can imagine that the roof is pretty low. Basically we are always trying to break that roof by looking outside.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Not enough really. That is something that really must change now, is urgent, it's killing the bands.
9. What’s next for Apneuma?
Next is the videoclip of Flag of Doom that will be released this 31/10. After that the release of the Album "III", probably another official video and by the end of this year we have one show with the Uruguayan Death metal legend Graf Spee, what a way to end the year!
