Sounds like: Pop Punk
From: California
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Dead End Job" and is there any meaning behind it?
All of us have different musical backgrounds in the band but the one thing we come together for is Green Day. Punk rock is a big influence for our band but we all bring something different to the table. Octavious brings metal influences with his bass playing, Kyle brings an emo element with his guitar playing, Alex brings old school punk rock with his drum skills and Colin brings a pop punk element with his singing. Octavious, Alex and Colin used to practice at a dead end street and we wanted our band name to be significant to us. After listing different names Dead End Job stuck.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We want people to listen to our music and feel different types of emotions. We want people to have fun and not take things seriously when listening to our music, sit down and hear what we have to say as well as move around in a circle really fast.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
We would describe our sound as if Green Day, Blink 182 and Sum 41 had an orgy.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Definitely Green Day, KennyHoopla and Heart Attack Man.
5. How has Covid affected what you do?
When Covid hit we didn’t see each other for months. Once it was okay to see each other again we practiced like nothing happened. In fact we wrote more music that we are super proud of.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Pop Punk?
Our take on Pop Punk right now is that everyone is trying to hard to be serious. Everything must have a deep meaning and you have to take the genre seriously. To us we love making and performing our music, we just want to have fun doing what we love and hopefully tour the world together!
7. What’s the current music scene like locally there in California?
The Bay Area scene after Covid grew enormously! New bands are coming out of the wood work while the bands before the pandemic are thriving. The Bay Area Punk scene has never been closer than before and we’re super grateful yo be part of it!
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Feel like because streaming is the new norm we recognize that we aren’t going to make any money when it comes to stream. Honestly people can illegally download our music all they want. Just as long as they support us by coming to our shows, sharing us online and buying our merch. Think that is what matters the most.
9. What’s next for Dead End Job?
This September we will be releasing a new song called "Conspiracies" as well as going on a weekend run that same month. In November we will be recording new music!
10. Any shoutouts?
Shoutout to Surprise Privilege, Fail Safe, Goof, Necessary Noise, Closet Monster and Mom With Bangs.
