1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Slab of Porphyria" and is there any meaning behind it?

The big bang happened and I started writing Slab of Porphyria's wide; yet still unreleased catalogue, it's been developed over the years as an amalgamation of melodic death metal, progressive metal and deathcore. Lyrics are usually about apocalyptic scenarios, mental health, cosmic horror, the human condition, authoritarianism, existentialism and all of the other things. As per the name, I just thought it was funny and has a nice ring to it but has no particular meaning.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

As long as they're vibin, I'm happy.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Spacey, melodic and atmospheric but really heavy.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Cattle Decapitation, Lorna Shore, and Oceano.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

Honestly Covid hasn't really affected Slab musically, I just kept on writing.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Deathcore?

It's nice to it always evolving and fluctuating with the times. I dip in and out of deathcore these days but there's really nice bands out there and projects going on.

7. What's the current music scene like there in Australia?

Here on the Gold Coast; Vinnie's Dive Bar in Southport is doing good things for the local scene. Everywhere is pretty poppin right now with new music and tours, it's really nice to see. Australia is a powerhouse for heavy music.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Could probably do better but that's not my call. Ya boy need to eat.

9. What’s next for Slab of Porphyria?

Slab has plans to release a single early 2023 then steadily releasing music throughout the year.

10. Any shoutouts?

Diamond Construct, Babirusa, DeathRow, Cerement, The Dick Jockeys, Valhalore, Crave Death, FALFICER (not Falicifier but also good), Honey Gum, Blind Girls, Entrapment, Melancholia, Cerement, Âme Noire, and Diesect.
