Sounds like: Punk Rock

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Uphill Avenue" and is there any meaning behind it?

Graham sent some lyrics to Jim and he heard them as punk. He thought we should give it a go and it just worked. From there, Graham aimed most of his lyrics at punk. Where we stayed (Graham rented from Jim for a few years) was a house in an Avenue, that was up a hill.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

An emotion. A feeling.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Our first album we merged a feel of British and US punk. It’s more traditional, not pop punk. In our next album we’re going more aggressive/core in our sound

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

The Exploited, Hatebreed, and Pennywise.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

We could write and record more.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Punk Rock?

It feels like the pop punk influence has grown and there’s less aggression/punk attitude. We’re actively trying to incorporate a bit more intensity going forward.

7. What's the current music scene like there in Australia?

Developing. Some very good. Has a lot of the British punk feel to it

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Pretty rubbish.

9. What's next for Uphill Avenue?

Studio session in Feb with much more aggressive album coming later in the year.
