1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Datura" come about and is there any meaning to it?

In general we’ve always had a passion for music as for the band it was just something that formed naturally, our bass player is the one that really started it all, coming to us with idea of starting a project. Our sound comes from a mix of multiple genres and combining them and seeing what works. The name came from Alex (our bassist once again, coming from hearing stories of people taking this plant called Datura Stramonium & the nightmarish experience that came with each trip where reality melts away in horrible ways. The description basically gave way as a sort of reflection of what we aimed the music to be. PSA don’t do drugs kids!

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

We want people to experience our music the way we did with bands/artists, creating emotion in people. Be it letting out all that build emotion in the pit, to have a little cry over the more emotional stuff. We are looking for people to not just experience the music but feel it.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Our sound takes elements of mainly hardcore, nu metal, Metalcore & Djent, with the punch you in the face breakdowns combined with a more groove based sound.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Touring wise we would love to tour with bands like Paleface Swiss who our drummer is obsessed with, kublai Khan TX and Meshuggah, all having elements that would gel well with our sound as a band. A side note from our bass player maybe even throw Taylor Swift in there, sure we could get a good pit going on opener ahah

5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?

It’s scary, AI in all forms is terrifying! It’s a very worrying trend taking away from the creators putting their heart & soul into everything they do, just for a machine to pump out a lifeless copy for someone else. A legal grey area where art is essentially being stolen from those who should get the credit!

6. What’s your take on the current state of Hardcore?

A genre currently under a massive resurgence, the hardcore scenes future is looking very bright especially here in the UK, with this new wave of bands coming through! Small pockets of scenes especially here in Scotland are coming together and putting on these insane shows, give it a couple of years and you’ll see many of these on much bigger stages!

7. What’s the current music scene like there in the UK?

The UK has got some of the best bands in the world putting out some of the best music right now! Seeing many of these make the transition from small clubs to the big stage has been something to behold, with many more on the way!

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

It’s something we all believe that has to change drastically! Unless your the likes of Ed Sheeran your practically doing this for free, which for rising artists is insane. This life ain’t cheap as it is, without having our art being peddled off for 0.0001 of a penny.

9. What’s next for Datura?

Currently in the process of recording our debut single/EP & looking to tour around the UK & beyond. A couple of dates already looked in for the first half of the year which we are stoked to announce in due time! Give give the socials a follow to keep up to date with the latest.

10. Any shoutouts?

Special thanks goes out to… Captain Toms Aberdeen for giving us somewhere to make a racket // The Datura Camp as a whole (you know who you are) // Katy’s Studio for covering our rise from Day 1 // Kieran Smith of To Kill Achilles for the insane recordings (coming soon) // Mosh Fest GLA // Stomping Ground Promotions & Everyone Who’s Supported us on our journey thus far, it’s been one crazy ride so far and we can tell you now it’s only upwards from here!
