1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "The Dark Table" come about and is there any meaning to it?
Max : I got started with music by really diving deep into my craft. For seven years, I prepared my songs, honing my sound and vision for the band. It’s kind of funny because I was inspired by a book called The Tale of the Dark Table, where the author meticulously details how he planned a future murder at a dark table. In a way, that mirrors my own preparation for this band. I wrote every single song at my dark desk, channeling my thoughts and experiences into the music. The name "The Dark Table" reflects that intensity and the notion of gathering around a table to explore darker themes—much like how the character in the book planned his future. It’s all about using that space to create something meaningful!
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Max :I hope listeners find a connection to their own experiences through our songs. We want to evoke emotions, inspire self-reflection, and create a sense of community. If our music helps someone feel understood or less alone, that’s the ultimate goal.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Max :I’d say our sound is a blend of metal’s intensity with catchy pop hooks. We have heavy guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and a melodic approach that makes our music accessible while still being hard-hitting. It’s a mix of darkness and light, perfect for anyone who loves to rock out but also appreciates a good melody.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Max :I’d love to tour with bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, and Nightwish. Each of them brings a unique sound and energy to their shows, and I think it would be an amazing experience to share the stage with them.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
Max :AI-generated music is an interesting development in the industry. While it can create some cool sounds and ideas, I think it lacks the human touch and emotional depth that comes from real experiences. Music is about connection, and that’s something AI struggles to replicate.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?
Max :Metal is thriving in its diversity. There are so many sub-genres and new bands emerging, which keeps the scene fresh and exciting. I think it’s great that metal continues to evolve and reach new audiences while still holding onto its roots.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Quebec?
Max :The Quebec music scene is vibrant and full of talent. There’s a great mix of genres, and the support for local artists is strong. It’s exciting to see so many musicians coming together to collaborate and share their work, creating a sense of community.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Max :It’s a tough situation. Streaming services provide access to a wider audience, which is fantastic, but the payout rates are often disheartening for artists. It can make it challenging for musicians to sustain their careers. We need to find a balance that supports creators fairly.
9. What’s next for The Dark Table?
Max :We’re focused on releasing new music and continuing to grow our audience. With our recent signing with FTD Entertainment, we’re excited about the opportunities ahead, including live shows and hopefully some festivals. We’re also looking to secure funding to help us expand our reach and production quality.
10. Any shoutouts?
Max : A big shoutout to our fans for their support and to everyone in the local music scene who keeps inspiring us. And, of course, to FTD Entertainment and our team for believing in our vision! Keep rocking, everyone!
