Sounds like: Pop Punk

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Firing At Statues" come about and is there any meaning to it?

Music has been in our lives from a young age. Three of our members were at high school during the time period when Nu Metal and Pop Punk was at its most popular. We gravitated to learning instruments, songwriting, going to concerts and playing in bands. Our newest member is the youngest in our band and even though his experience was different, he still shares the same passion for music and believes music brings people together.

The origins of this band came together in late 2018, and, after a lot of delays due to lineup changes and one broken knee, we finally achieved our current line up in late 2023. With this complete lineup in 2024 we played our biggest gig in the bands history supporting legendary Ska Punk band Spunge in front 200+ people.

The meaning of the band name stems from the class structure within society and us going against the grain. The statues symbolize powerful elites throughout history and famous people that have been created in an image of self importance and then there's us firing back at this system. Although we are not an overtly political band, we believe everyone should have a voice and that's why the content of our songs address topics of mental health, inclusion, social anxiety, abandonment issues and rejection. Mix this with our many different Pop Punk, Alternative Rock and Metal influences, and you get Firing at Statues.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Firstly we want everyone to have a great time listening to our records and watching our band live. We would also like to create a safe space within music in which everyone feels included. Music can be a great escape from all that life throws at us, and music has been there for us through the good and bad times, so if we can make a difference in people's lives even a little it's worth it.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

A raw emotive sound with energetic riffs, mixed with catchy choruses you would hear from bands like Green Day, Blink 182 and Less than Jake.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Zebrahead, The Offspring and Blink 182.

5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?

It's idea theft laundered by computers into uninteresting slop. Art is about emotion, and AI doesn't have emotions so it can't create art, only imitate it. And it's imitations suck.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Pop Punk?

Our current take on it is that popularity wise it's great seeing a lot of bands reunited to play even larger stages. Music wise we prefer the old formula, although there are many great bands out there. We find that a lot bands sound the same with their identity stripped away in late 90s early 2000s, when every Pop Punk band sounded unique and different.

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Glasgow, Scotland?

It's very good! Live music every night of the week, with something for everyone. We would love to see more bands working together and supporting each other to build a even bigger scene.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Artists deserve better. A lot of time, money and promotion goes into creating music so it's only right that if a band is successful with streams they should be paid correctly for that work.

9. What’s next for Firing At Statues?

This year we already have a new single dropping January 20th. We're going on a podcast January 26th. We already have two gigs booked, one in February, one in March. The rest of the year we plan to build our fanbase more, play more gigs outside of our hometown, improve our Spotify following, film live content, writing more songs and finally a returning goal we have every year is to get onto the festival scene. So far this hasn't happened but we are hopeful we will eventually achieve this.

10. Any shoutouts?

We would like to give a shout out to:

The band Slackrr such a great bunch of people who we find inspiring and look forward to seeing them succeed. They deserve it.

Triple G Events for all their support and adding us to one of favourite gigs of all time last year.

Chris at Bar Bloc for always supporting us and believing in our ideas.

Laurence Crow for all his hard work on all our artwork. He is such a truly amazing talent.

Jordan Daly from the band Wrthless who helps us a lot. Last year from taking our photos to shooting our music video for "Father of the Year".

The band Low Level Monk we hope to get a gig with you in 2025 as it's been too long.

Tom Newton from The Bottom Line for all of his hard work raising money for charity through Teddy Rocks. One of the greatest human beings we have met and is in a awesome band.

Our friend and previous band mate Lewis Harwood who first helped us start Firing at Statues. Great guy and he is releasing a book this year, we are super proud.

And finally all our friends, families, and fans for all of your support. We appreciate you.
