Sounds like: Funk Metal

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Deep Majestic Thunder" come about and is there any meaning to it?

Deep Majestic Thunder: A Funk Metal Odyssey.

Forged in the sonic fires of their previous band, Chariot Arcana, Prince Charman (vocals) and Funky Christos (bass) decided it was time for a funkier, heavier, and more mind-expanding adventure. Drawing inspiration from Infectious Grooves, Faith No More, RHCP, Tool, and RATM, they set out to create a sound that's equal parts psychedelic trip, Viking battle cry, and slap-bass earthquake.

Enter Dave, a guitarist who shreds with the fury of Metallica’s finest riffs, and Dr. Andy Thunder, a rhythmic scientist whose love for Helmet ensures the grooves hit with surgical precision and maximum impact.

The name Deep Majestic Thunder is no accident: it’s a nod to their past mind-bending explorations, a love for Terence McKenna’s cosmic ramblings, and an obsession with chest-rattling bass frequencies. Oh, and Vikings. Because what’s funk metal without a little Norse mythology? So, if you like face-melting grooves, punk energy, and a touch of interdimensional philosophy, strap in. Deep Majestic Thunder is here to shake the earth: one bass slap at a time.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

We want people to crank up Deep Majestic Thunder - whether in their headphones, car, or lounge room, and get launched into a high-vibration journey straight to an astral realm where groove is law, inspiration flows like liquid fire, and creativity reigns supreme. Expect face-melting riffs, seismic basslines, and rhythms tight enough to bend space and time; all designed to shake your soul and expand your mind.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Our sound is a cosmic collision of heavy shredding guitars, thunderous yet tastefully intricate drums, and basslines so irresistibly funky they could start a seismic event—all topped off with insistent, driven punk rock vocals delivering messages that demand to be heard. It’s psychedelic funk metal with a rebellious edge, designed to move both your body and your mind.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Infectious Grooves, Helmet and Tool.

5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?

It’s not our style, but no problem with others using it. There are some good AI mixing processes but less is more.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?

Nothing ground-breaking since Slipknot. Very derivative but if you can use your influences creatively, power to ya!

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Australia?

There’s still a bubbling independent music scene but it’s a small market, so most musos look to the overseas areas for touring and expanding their reach. If you’re good enough and get some lucky breaks you can definitely do well though.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Pitiful, criminal, shameful! Time for a class action!

9. What’s next for Deep Majestic Thunder?

Big things are brewing in the Deep Majestic Thunder camp! With a killer new drummer and guitarist on board, we’re rehearsing like maniacs and gearing up for an Australian tour in March and April. We’ve also locked in a sweet distribution deal with an awesome European label, so expect our sonic storm to hit hard overseas. We’ve got our sights set on the USA, UK, and Europe - so festival organizers, take note! Soma Shower’s new video is locked and loaded for release on 28 February, when the planets align, and there’s more fresh, face-melting music coming right after that. Stay tuned, because the Thunder is rolling in!
