From: Kentucky
Sounds like: Alternative Rock
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Dream Iridescent" come about and is there any meaning to it?
We’ve all been playing most of our lives. We are a mash up of different influences, with each member bringing a lifetime of unique musical experiences. But we immediately seemed to find common ground in our own mashup of Metal, New Wave, and Shoegaze type sounds.
The name Dream Iridescent came from a friend’s wife - it just seems to fit the sounds we were making.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Hopefully it’s music that can take you on a journey.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Alternative/Indie/Punk Rock with a twist of shoegaze.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Static X, R.E.M, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
To me, music is emotion in sound. People want something real that speaks to them on an emotional level. I think AI will drive people back to real raw performance.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Alternative Rock?
Well video has killed the radio star, but probably not in the way we thought when that song came out. There are always people that will gravitate to real music made by real artists - but there are a lot more distractions than there used to be. So only the true believers keep the faith.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Kentucky?
There are pockets of folks making great music.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
It"s both a blessing and a curse. Artists obviously have to rely on other avenues of income and these strategies are often focused more on direct connections between artists and their fans. I see this as a win/ win. I also find that when you take the thought of money off the table from art, it allows you to focus on creating from the place of freedom and joy - true expression of one's self is possible. Which is true art to me.
9. What’s next for Dream Iridescent?
We just released the Life in Color EP. Really looking forward to playing these songs live. I think it’s our best work to date. Also starting to write the next batch of songs too. Been living by the mantra of always be creating.
10. Any shoutouts?
