From: Ohio
Sounds like: Pop Punk
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Nervous Energies" come about and is there any meaning to it?
I joined my first band when I was 18 and had moved away to college. I was living with my cousin at the time that was in a Pop Punk band. We toured, played crazy shows and did amazing things with that band. It was in that time I fell in love with Alternative music as a whole. Finding bands like Neck Deep and The Wonder Years made me think it would be nice to make songs like this. Fast forward to post pandemic, after that the band decided to part ways, I was performing at an open mic night and realized it had been so long since I'd done anything musically that I was scared. One of my aunts got me a shot and a beer and said something like "Here this will help with your Nervous Energies" and I immediately decided if I started a new band that would be the name.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
To have fun. Life is serious a lot and maybe if something we really enjoy doing can make people forget about that seriousness for a minute that's a cool thing. We do have serious songs but we try not to take ourselves to serious at all.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
If you like Pop-punk, DND, video games, obscure movie references, ghost hunting and poop jokes you'll like us.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Neck Deep, Stand Atlantic, The Wonder Years, Jimmy Eat World, so many bands it's hard to list them all.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
That's tough. Mainly due to the fact that AI is becoming such an ingrained thing in our everyday. Like if your using it to write whole songs and then claiming it as your own that's weird, but there's all those dumb AI songs on tik tok and some of them are funny. I guess if you wanna do it be upfront about it being what it is.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Pop Punk?
Pop Punk is in a good place right now to me, there's plenty of bands that are doing it really well and others that are doing cool things to push boundaries and blur lines.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Ohio?
Ohio music scene is killer. With lots of awesome venues, insane up and coming artists and old school legends, you'd be hard pressed to not find something you like here.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
So I've only been real small time and haven't gotten royalties from music. If we did, it always went back into the band. But I'm aware the landscape for streaming services is not very good. Loads of "successful international bands" that some locals look up to still have day jobs and have to plan accordingly around that even when they have hundreds of thousands of streams it seems almost like "living off your art" becomes more and more unattainable unless you're this crazy multi platinum artist.
9. What’s next for Nervous Energies?
We are currently writing and recording an album! Very stoked to be working on music and cant wait to get it out there .
10. Any shoutouts?
Big shoutout to the Columbus music scene and anyone who listens to us you are appreciated.
