Sounds like: Punk Rock

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Reckless Rhythms" come about and is there any meaning to it?

Eric: I have been listening and experimenting with music and songs since I was a little boy. I loved old rock and roll from the 60s. Then my older sister gave me a cassette of Black Flag's, "Wasted Again", that was the moment of my punk rock conception. I have been playing in bands for 25 years now, Britt and Matt reached out to me and invited me to give it a try. I think it has been a great fit.

Matt: There was always music around my house growing up so I was very interested in music early on. Then I found punk rock, got a guitar, started a band and never looked back. Our sound is partly influenced by having so many influences, between the three of us our music taste is very broad, and I think it shows, we try not to make everything sound the same.

Britt: My dad was a drummer and was in many glam bands as I was growing up - the most popular one being Peppermint Creeps. He lived out in Hollywood and I lived with my mom separately, but he was always sending me cool music to listen to and educating me about the rockstar lifestyle.

As far as the origin of our name, Britt had to have major heart surgery a couple of years ago. That was a difficult time but as always, music helped us through that. The name Reckless Rhythms reflects our journey and symbolism is underlying.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Unity, support, community.

Matt: It’s hard to say because everyone interprets music differently but if people dig it and take something positive from it im happy with that. the worlds a pretty fucked up place and I think music is a very strong force for hope and change that can truly help people.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

We would say we are a sing-along Punk Rock n Roll band with catchy hooks.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Oh man.... there are too many to list. There are so many great bands made up of wonderful humans, it would be an honor to hit the road with them. Koffin Kats would definitely be a very fun band to tour with, we love those guys like family. The Virus or Rancid would be on our list as well!

5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?

Eric: Not many thoughts on AI anything. It is what it is, but I don't want to have anything to do with it. Music to me is about the expression of human emotions.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Punk Rock?

It seems like the popularity of Punk Rock comes in waves. It ebbs and flows throughout the years. There are a lot of awesome new bands right now and the scene seems to be making a comeback again. Punk is never truly dead. We are looking forward to helping contribute to the community as much as possible!

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Michigan?

West Michigan is currently full of great bands, young bands! I forecast a bright next several years for musical growth and experimentation.

Matt: there are so many great bands out there right now and Punk Rock is still alive and thriving. Sometimes it's hard to find in smaller towns but it's always there underneath everything.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Eric: I have accepted it as the way things are. Personally, I never in my lifetime thought I would ever make any significant money from creating music. I'm actually okay with having our music streamed to the masses and reach people all over the country. I think that's cool but I understand the other side too. If I was a recording artist who relied on unit sales for my livelihood, well then I would want a larger slice of the Spotify pie.

9. What’s next for Reckless Rhythms?

Matt: Well we are about to go back in the studio to start putting together our next release with Vic Victor and were very stoked to share all these new songs with everyone. Besides that we are just booking shows probably gonna try to do some out of state runs and then just keep on moving and see what happens next.

10. Any shoutouts?

We would love to thank Peppermint Creeps, Koffin Kats, our family and friends for all of the continued support! Thank you to Bird Mouth Mouth Records for helping us out and huge thank you to From the Depths Entertainment as well! Kat Karnage from Grand Rapids is a great band that you should check out!!!! Also, much love to Eric’s wife Erin for allowing us to practice in their basement!
