Fawn (Stoner Grunge Rock) - Australia
-Interview- (2/17/24)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Fawn" come about and is there any meaning to it?
I think each of us in this band began our musical journeys in different ways, but we all were influenced by others in a way that instilled a strong passion for creating and performing. TI think from our parents love of music, it's all we wanted to do since we can remember. Personly I played bass for a long time before switching to write songs on guitar. The sound of fawn has come about organically from prioritising simple melodies and by leaving space within the music for the other guys to be able to express themselves.
The name Fawn represents vulnerability. It's a reminder to always be open and honest and vulnerable when writing our songs.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Anything! The worst would be to take away nothing. But...we want to make you feel like the world is a better place than it was, before you heard us!
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Stoner Grunge Pop Boy Band.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Sparta, ...Trail of the Dead and Neil Young.
5. How has Covid affected what you do?
We just adapted as best we could. Thankfully Perth escaped the worst of lock downs etc.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?
Rock is a word that covers such a wide section of music. Generally, we are all for people playing real instruments, live, for other people to enjoy. Unless that person is MGK.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Australia?
Australia, and Perth, has always had a strong scene. Being such a small place, population wise, there is a great communal sense amongst the people who get along to the gigs.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
We have no experience with this, and do not expect to get rich from streaming our music.
9. What’s next for Fawn?
We have a new E.P that has just dropped, we will be promoting that and then start planning a series of shows around the country before starting to record our first album.
10. Any shoutouts?
Thanks to the crew at From The Depths Entertainment for all the love.
