-Interview- (4/6/24)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Koz" come about and is there any meaning to it?
I grew up in a house that appreciated all sorts of music. When I found my first guitar at age 10, I was hooked for life. We continue to develop our sound. The more we write, the stronger our voice becomes.
Koz is a nickname I had growing up. It felt right to use it for the band name.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Each song is written to capture a moment in time or an emotion. So we hope that our music helps you connect with that feeling and brings you some joy...or sadness. Whatever you're looking for.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
We started as a blues band, so you will always hear at least a hint of blues in most of our tunes. But we don't like to confine ourselves to a genre. Our music is our music and each track takes on a life of its own.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers Band, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats
5. How has Covid affected what you do?
Since things have opened back up, we've pretty much returned to normal. Thank heavens - those were strange and uncertain times.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?
It's in good shape. Lots of great artists out there finding their voice and it's easier than ever to find new music.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Pennsylvania?
PA has pockets of scenes that are getting stronger by the day, but it's very compartmentalized and difficult to cross-pollinate between those communities. Recently, I've been seeing lots of tribute acts booking gigs and selling out small to medium sized venues, which is a bad sign for original musicians.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
We're going back to the way music began. You can only make money by performing live, which is fine by us.
9. What’s next for Koz?
We recently recorded two tracks that will be released in the coming months. We only release one task at a time because of time and money. We are booked up for most of 2024 and we're looking to expand our reach to other cities these next few years.
10. Any shoutouts?
Shoutout to our families and friends that support us every step of the way.
Shoutout to our audio engineer/ Producer Jake Zang. He does phenomenal work.
Much, much love to our fans. You are the reason we do it.
