Night's Edge

Night's Edge (Hard Rock/Metal) - Maryland

Fresh off the heels of their 2023 album “Strangers”, Night’s Edge is wasting no time waiting for recognition. With a haunting take on the Deftones’ classic “Change In The House of Flies”, the alternative metal trio is powering into 2024 with a gothic howl, demanding ears to tune into their metallic symphony.

As of 2024, the band has released three full length albums and two EP’s, however all previous attempts pale in comparison to their most recent full length “Strangers”. This album displays a sound that is distinctly and inimitably Night’s Edge constructed across eleven different tracks that spin a parable on isolation in an increasingly technologically connected world. The band released three music videos from this album for songs “SFH”, “News of Our Doom”, and “Go Alone”.

This new cover is the band’s bridge from their third album ”Strangers”, and the new singles that the band is tailoring to release in late 2024 and beyond, building towards the release of their fourth full-length in 2025.

Over the band’s lifetime, Night’s Edge has performed throughout the Mid-Atlantic from Richmond, Virginia to Boston, Massachusetts at venues ranging from dive bars to a stage in a convention center. As Baltimore natives, the band has taken the stage at venues such as Soundstage, Angels Rock Bar, and the Ottobar. In August of 2021 the band had their first festival performance when they were invited to perform at Shadow Woods Metal Festival during the festival’s final year.

With many live shows on the books in 2024 throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, the band will be grinding the stage as well as the studio. Night’s Edge has a lot to say, their own new twists to inject into modern heavy music, and no plans to slow down.

-Interview- (7/16/24)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Night's Edge" come about and is there any meaning to it?

Night’s Edge first started back in 2018 and it took a few years and a couple albums of experimentation and trial & error to find our sound. Our late-2023 release Strangers was the first album that fully realized the vision that was touched on in earlier releases; music that captures intense emotions & experiences with heavy anthems inspired by every corner of rock and metal up until this point in time to create a sound that is simultaneously familiar yet singularly “Night’s Edge”.

The name itself comes from the feeling of anticipation that one gets before a big nocturnal adventure, whether that be a night out on the town, a major performance, a ‘rendezvous’, or anything else that you get into after dark. When the sun is setting, the breeze is cool, and you know something’s about to go down - that’s Night’s Edge.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Our lyrics provide listeners a lot of depth to get into if they desire to dive deep, but it’s cool if people enjoy the music just because it sounds good to them as well. Ideally, we want people coming away thinking “this music makes me feel a specific feeling that no other music quite does. The sound and lyrics take me to a unique place that I didn’t really know was there, but is still recognizable."

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

This is a hard one. We aren’t a subgenre band, so the usual categories don’t really fit us. Our music is heavy and anthemic, with synths used akin to a symphony to add a ton of texture and emotion to the music and almost create a setting within the music itself. Different songs sound different - sometimes gothy and sensual, sometimes aggressive and in-your-face. We don’t sound like any specific band.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Sleep Toke, Poppy and Deftones.

5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?

It’s hard to say how bad AI generated music could get for musicians if it improves but in its current state, AI generated music sucks. It is not good. It is not quality. Not even on our radar as competition. Just like with AI images, AI music relies on pattern recognition to generate something that is just a huge sum of averages of the music that the “AI” has analyzed. Everything it produces is banal and bland. Sure, some people are ok with consuming generic, shitty music, but those people were never our target audience anyways.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Hard Rock/Metal?

There’s a lot of great bands and a lot more bands that sound the same as each other or or one of the great bands that they’re trying to imitate. Same as it's always been. Metal is as strong as it always has been, I think that’s just the nature of the genre and the dedication that its fans have (one of the reasons I love it) but Rock is probably less popular than it ever has been, mostly because of lack of innovation. But there are always examples of some bands doing something new. Sleep Token is a great example - very original sound. Hopefully their major label debut album is wildly successful and that results in more investment from big labels into unique acts in rock and metal.

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Maryland?

It’s our home so of course we love it and think it's great. More objectively, it’s like many other scenes where it is supported by dedicated bands and dedicated fans. Lots of great people in the scene who make things happen and support each other. It has the same major challenge as many other scenes - there are more local musicians than there are fans of local music. But we all turn up for each other and make it happen.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Y'all are getting paid?

9. What’s next for Night's Edge?

We just recorded four new tracks that will be a part of our upcoming 4th album which we’ll put out next year. We’ve got a bunch of shows through the end of the year including but not limited to:

8/16 - The Kennel (York PA)
8/17 - JB Lovedrafts (Harrisburg PA)
8/18 - Morsbergers (Catonsville MD)
8/25 - R&K Pub (Hagerstown MD)

We’ll hit the studio again in December / January to record the rest of the album and will absolutely be playing as much as we can wherever we can next year.

10. Any shoutouts?

All of the bands, venues, promoters, engineers, etc who have worked with us. Anybody who has taken a shot on us whether it's been with a show, with a playlist, with an interview, or anything else.
