Think Inside Me

Think Inside Me (Rock) - Spain

This project has its origin in Tres Cantos - Madrid and is led by Javier García. (Voice and guitar), Rafael Saguar (Solo Guitar), Borja Arriola on bass and Martín Aparicio on drums. It is Javier who is shaping his compositions, mostly influenced by the American Rock of the 90's. The lyrics composed by Javi are shaped by complex chords and structures. Bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden impact the compositions that will later shape the band's present day. In 2018 they recorded their first self-released self-titled LP with the help of producer Juan Blas (Nothink, Minor Empires, Caboverde as a musician and Toundra or La MODA as a producer) at Westline Studios with 8 songs.

With this album they perform many concerts throughout Spain, where they are gaining fame as a very powerful and forceful band live. During that time they do not leave the rehearsal room and shape what will be their second album, which they finish recording in May 2021 again at the Westline studios with Juan Blas and mastering them at the prestigious Ultramarinos studio. In September 2022 they signed with the label “The Fish Factory” with which they published their second album IGNITION, which is now available both physically in stores throughout Spain and on all digital platforms and has been received with great success from critics and the public. , being officially presented at the Sala Moby in Madrid.

-Interview- (12/15/23)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Think Inside Me" and is there any meaning behind it?

The project was born in 2007. Javi, the songwriter, started to develop the songs during the first two or three years, always with an eye looking to the 90s American rock, the grunge, as a reference. Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and especially Live with his Throwing Cooper album inspired Javi in his approach to shaping a personal sound from the beginning of this musical journey. The name of the band tries to remember to the listeners, with a play on words, that they must think beneath the surface of their own skin and listen to what their inner self needs to say, becoming better friends with ourselves in the process. When we learn what hurts ourselves in a deeper sense, we will be reluctant to make other people hurt, and that is the way to become better human beings.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Our first interest is to make people enjoy our music, no matter who they are or wherever they come from. The better way we know to express, understand, manifest, and in some cases denounce what we feel on the inside in a musical sense is through rock music, and we know that the birthplace of all this genre and the place that inspires Think Inside Me project is the USA. In fact, all this project is shaped for an American audience. We love you so much!

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

We believe our sound could be defined as melodic and forceful, with a clear focus on the lyrics, both about love and complaint. The mark left by this style of music in the 90s, besides his natural evolution, still pretty alive in bands that still around as Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots or Alice in Chains. Also with those bands who joined after those magical years such as Foo Fighters, Incubus or Tool.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

When you start a band, you inevitably dream about opening to your all-time references, such as all the ones we had mentioned above. Javi has a special weakness for Live; singing Stage or Top with Edward would be a dream come true for him. If we have to name three bands, in an attempt to be more specific, those must be Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and Live. It would be awesome! We understand that, besides all the daydreaming, every path to follow should be started from the bottom.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

Good question... It was quite strange, actually. We were about to promote The Good Ones, and we had the studio booked for march of that year to recording the whole album. But the entire world stopped, and Ignition recordings were delayed almost a year. Besides all that, we are a very committed and involved band, so all of us started to polish as much as was possible. We believe that if you are a positive person, every setback hides an opportunity.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?

For us, rock our live, our soul, our way of expression... For us, it is everything. Currently, is far from being dead, it is a style that has always being around, and it regenerates as a phoenix. Bands from the 90s today are the headlines of some of the bigger festivals around the world and continue with the same strength they had back in their youth. Even if in Spain the rock scene is not as important as it is in other places nowadays, we believe that very good bands are beginning to come out with that 90s feeling. That magical frequency is being created again.

7. What's the current music scene like there in Spain?

In Spain, as it occurs in the rest of Europe, the most successful artists in all streaming and downloading services are the same that hit on Americas charts (Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Rosalía, etc.). Nevertheless, we have been in music festivals to see Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters or Smashing Pumpkins perform for more than 80,000 people. The audience still wants to listen to rock music, what is needed are new bands with that same essence. Think Inside Me is a neat example of this idea.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

We understand that it is not the same for us as it is for a band with more experience. We know that in our position, it's time to promote, bet and work hard. The rest will come.

9. What's next for Think Inside Me?

We have started working on a promotional level with people in Mexico and Chile. The idea is to tour these countries to close this promo and increase dissemination. Besides, we are already working on the third album.

10. Any shoutouts?

Firstly, we would like to thank you for reaching out to us and for your interest in our music. And last but not least, we want to thank their support to every rock lover from that dear country that is the USA; especially to all those rock bands that, like ourselves, are beginning to spread and work so that this beloved style of ours never dies and will always be as it is now: very alive! Let's rock!
